Obituary

Dr. William Polite Jr, affectionately known as "Buggs" was born on July 1, 1966, in Wichita, Ks to Dilce and William Ralph Polite Sr. Buggs was raised in Wichita, Ks and attended Mueller, Hadley, and was a proud graduate of North High School. Buggs attended Benedict College for a semester, and then transferred to Morehouse College in Atlanta Ga, where he earned a BA in Mathematics. He went on to earn an MA degree in Christian Degree Studies as well as an Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership. He most recently received his doctorate in Educational Leadership. Dr. Polite currently serves as Director of Equity, Diversity and Accountability for Wichita Public Schools. In his role he was responsible for working with district leadership and community leaders to help close the opportunity and achievement gaps for marginalized students. In addition to his work with WPS Dr. Polite is the founder of Build and Rebuild, Schools Halls Not Prison Walls and the co-author of "Protect Your Mind" workbook, with his two sons. Both ministries focused on mathematics, dropout prevention, prison prevention, rehabilitation, and mentorship. Dr. Polite also served in various roles as a math teacher, assistant principal, principal, district administrator, athletic coach, motivational speaker and VP of Business Development with Magic Johnson Bridgescape Academy. Dr. Polite has served communities in Chicago, Atlanta, St. Louis, Milwaukee, Detroit, Baton Rouge, Los Angeles, and Wichita.

Buggs is survived by his mother, Minister Dilce Polite. He leaves to cherish his memory the mother of his children and life-long friend, Lisa Polite. He is survived by his four children, Brandon Polite, Eboni Armstrong (Derrick), William Polite, DeVonna Thomas and Bonus Son Marquise (Cochise) Bradley.

Siblings Dr. Kenneth Polite Sr., NaTisha Choice, Melva Jean Simmons, Evelyn Myers, Marvell Polite, Deborah Ann Polite Brown, William Thomas(Nephew), Darren Thomas(Nephew), Robin Thomas(Nephew), Keith Thomas(Nephew). Buggs has eight grandchildren and recently became a great grandfather. He leaves a host of nieces, nephews, mentees, family and friends including close nephews Donyel Polite, Kenneth Polite Jr, and niece Chasity Winns.

Preceded in death by father WIlliam Polite Sr., Sisters Rhonda Kay Polite, Toya Vann, Ava Colbert and Scarlett Thomas. Brothers Norvette Davenport, Andre Bencent and Donnell Polite.
