Walter "Walt" Underwood, age 79, passed away on August 2, 2024, in Wichita, Kansas. He was born in the town of Simsboro, Louisiana on July 21, 1945, to his loving parents John L. Underwood Sr. & Elsie Mae Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his cherished sister Ada Wesley, brother Curtis Underwood and son Corey Underwood. In his time on this Earth, Walter touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy that will be forever remembered. He is survived by his brothers and sisters Henry, Johnnie, Edward, Willie, and Bettye.
Walter served his country with honor as a United States Army Veteran and later went on to have a successful career as a maintenance worker at McConnell Air Force Base. His dedication to his work and commitment to excellence earned him the respect of his colleagues and superiors.
Those who knew Walter recognized him for his kind and gentle nature, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. His warm smile and infectious laughter brightened the lives of those around him, making the world a better place with his presence.
A Celebration of Life in honor of Walter Underwood and his sister Ada Wesley will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Mizpah Baptist Church, where friends and family will gather to remember and pay tribute to a life well-lived. He will be laid to rest on Monday, August 19, 2024, at Winfield Veteran Cemetery, a fitting tribute to his service to his country.
As we say goodbye to Walter, we remember the joy he brought into our lives and the love he shared with all who knew him. His memory will forever be cherished, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
Rest in peace, Walter Underwood. Your legacy of love and kindness will never be forgotten.
