Vincent
Knight
Feb 6, 1939 — Feb 26, 2019
Vincent Baxter Knight was born in Coffeyville, Kansas on February 9, 1939. A memorable character who enriched the lives of those who knew him, he was a man who made a lasting impression...and not simply because of his 6'4" frame. His clever sense of humor and outgoing personality were obvious assets throughout his varied and diverse career. He served in the U.S. Army and also spent 25 years in the airline industry with Air Canada. In addition, he held positions as a security guard and a railroad employee, as well.
But, Vincent probably made his most lasting impressions on the basketball court. As a prep star, he set scoring records at Field Kindley Memorial High School before playing at Coffeyville Community College and New Mexico State University, where he earned All-Conference recognition. His talent on the hardwood also earned him the opportunity to play briefly in a Harlem Globetrotter uniform and as a leader on on one of Canada's top Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) teams.
In his latter years Vincent battled kidney disease with tenacity and determination. He endured dialysis for a number of years before succumbing on February 26, 2019. He is survived by four daughters: Karen, Sandra, Cheryl Knight-Hines, and Virginia Jacobson, two sons, Vincent, Jr. and Curtis, a sister, Helois Johnson, six grandchildren: Kiante Vincent Toles Knight, David Knight, Jevaun and Cory Jacobson, Taylor Knight, and Chelene Knight, and one great grandchild, Oliver Knight.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
