Obituary

At the opening of a new Sunday Morning, in a
suburb of Denver Colorado, Thelma Alice
Fortson left home and committed her spirit
into the hands of the Lord. She had been
Blessed with 101 years on this earth.
Thelma was survived by her Grandchildren;
Sharen & Eric Davis, Donita Smith, Addie
(Cookie) Anderson, Robert L. Anderson II,
Melvin & Michelle Anderson, Neil Smith, Irene
Anderson. Cousins Betty Shepard and Angela
Shepard who had became great support to
her during this final year.
Great Grandchildren;
Raymond & Somer Reed, Sharecce & Lamar
Johnson, Phillip & Charmaine Smith, Danesia
Shepard, Brittney & Cory Christman, Senya
Anderson and Amara Anderson. In addition
eight Great, Great Grandchildren and one
Great, Great, Great Grandson, and Daughter
in law Pauline Washington.
She was processed in death by Harrison
Fortson her husband of 25 years, her
father Robert Carnes, and Mother Hazel
Carnes Brooks, Step-Father Melvin Brooks,
Jessie Anderson first husband, son Robert
Lee Anderson I, Granddaughter Terry Jean
Anderson and Daughter in-Law Sandra
Anderson.
The First half of her life was spent in her
home Wichita Kansas. She was an active
member at Calvary Baptist Church. At the
age of 24, she gave her life to the Lord
followed by baptism. Thelma attended and
graduated from North Senior High School.
Always a social butterfly she took part in
many community events and activities
including those of the Eastern Stars.
Thelma's love of animals especially Cats,
gave her a life long purpose.
Following the death of her Mother Hazel, in
1962 her Step-father Melvin Brooks
encouraged and supported her in her
endeavor towards a career in nursing. At
the age of 47 she completed her Associate
Degree in Nursing at Saint Francis School
of Nursing. Upon Graduation she moved to
Denver Colorado with friends where she
worked at some of the major Healthcare
services in the metro area.
Retirement allowed Thelma to take on the
task of providing Foster Care Services, in
her home for cats with server injuries
caused by abuse. She was also able to use
some time to support her church, "Good
Shepard Baptist Church Of Denver."
Thelma was known for her intense Love of
the Lord and Animals. She was a fiercely
independent woman. Thelma Fortson did
life her way. She will be missed and
remembered with love and respect.
