Sylvester "Bud" L. Canady

Sylvester Canady, known as Mr. Bud, was born on December 3, 1948 in Peoria, Illinois to his loving parents Roberts and Erma Canady. He spent his early childhood in Peoria before his family relocated to Springfield, Illinois, where he continued his education, surrounded by the love and support of his family. Mr. Bud grew into kind, caring, and resilient man so many came to know and love. After graduating from high school in 1966, Mr. Bud enlisted in the United States Army and served honorably, marking the beginning of a life, filled with service and dedication. While serving his country, he also began building his life. In 1973 Mr. Bud married and became the proud father of three children, Dianne, Dion, and Dana. He traveled widely throughout his military career and embraced the opportunity to experience new places and cultures. His discipline and commitment to serving others helped shape the remarkable man, his family and friends knew and loved. Mr. Bud later relocated to Maryland, where he completed his distinguished military career at Walter Reed Medical Center. He retired as a sergeant first class after 20 years of faithful service. His dedication, leadership, and compassion left the lasting impact on all who served alongside him. Mr. Bud proudly served his country as a Vietnam veteran, carrying that spirit of service with him throughout his life. He embraced life’s next chapters with resilience, faith, and determination, when he started working at the Robert J. Doe VA hospital. He later married Pat, the love of his life, and was blessed with the loving blended family, welcoming Sabrina and Chad. The Canady Family wasn't defined only by blood, but by love. Following his retirement, Mr. Bud remained committed to serving others by volunteering with various community organizations. He was immensely involved in Meals on Wheels, the VA, D.A.V, and American Legion, where he held all Office positions up to 5th District Commander. Pat and Bud would travel always in service organizations having fun and getting to know people from around numerous states. He found joy in giving back and never hesitated to lend a helping hand wherever he was needed. His generous heart, compassionate spirit, and dedication to helping others reflected the values he lived by. Anyone who knew him knew he could be a little feisty and stubborn, but they also knew they could always count on him. His kindness and sense of humor will be deeply missed. Preceding him in death are his Father, Mother, and Brother. He leaves behind to cherish and celebrate his life and homegoing his devoted Wife of 27 years, Patricia Canady at home; his Sister Shirley Childers of Wichita Kansas; five children: Dianne (Gary) of Des Moines, Iowa; Dion and Dana of Wichita, Kansas; Sabrina and Chad of Massillon, Ohio; Uncle Melvin (Myrna) and Aunt Maggie of Peoria, Illinois; Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, American Legion family, and friends. We love you, Mr. Bud.
