Obituary

April 7, 1953, Stephen B. Maloney was born to the union of Charles and Helen Maloney. Stephen, also known as Steve" was a shy and quiet person with a heart of gold.

A native of Wichita, Steve attended Dunbar Elementary School where he established lifelong friendships unaware of the legacy he would leave. He continued his education at Horace Mann Jr. High School where his love for track began, becoming a part of the "Horace Mann Express" 440 relay team. This love for track would allow him to sore to new heights. Entering into high school, his passion for track would establish him as one of the best track stars in West High School history. Achieving the All-Time best state record for the 440 relay. We are so proud of his success. On top of track, Steve also played football with his beloved brother Preston. Their achievements can be found in the sports section of the Wichita Eagle & Beacon. NEWS FLASH!  "Maloney brothers provided West High School with the first city league win of the year" Steve continued his education at Hutchinson Jr. College where he studied Sociology, Psychology and Child Care Development.

After his education he worked for Cessna Aircraft, and for Sedgwick County as a Juvenile Correctional Officer for 25 years until his retirement. Steve also had a love of the arts, music, drawing, and beautiful calligraphy handwriting. Other passions included taking family road trips. One of his greatest joys was around the table playing "Spinners". Sports, good times, and friends were his happy space.

Steve is survived by his loving wife Joyce Maloney of thirty years; Son: Christopher Jones (Tahira), Stepsons: Mario Richard (Emily), and Jermaine White (Aliona), Daughter: Asya Stiles (David), Seventeen Grandchildren, Four Great Grandchildren, Siblings: Richard Maloney, Pamela Hales, Gordon Maloney, Charlene Crawford, Sharon Smith, Becky Maloney-Kendrick (Gregory), Karen Cayce and a host of nieces, nephews, extended families and friends. Preceded in death by; Parents: Charles and Helen Maloney, Brothers: Charles Maloney, Robert Burnett, Wayne Burnett, Bernard Burnett and Preston Maloney. He will be missed by all and every life he touched.
