Stephen G. Gleissner

June 27, 1962 – June 3, 2024

Wichita, Kansas – Stephen Gleissner, 61, died on June 3, 2024.

He was born in Wichita, Kansas to Veron Gleissner and Kathryn (Busch) Gleissner.  Both parents proceeded him in death. He is survived by his partner Fred, and sister Susan (Gleissner) White.

Stephen's life was all about art.  His love for the different arts started at an early age. His parents were collector of antiques.  As a family they would travel to antique shows. He got to know the antique dealers. He learned a lot from the dealers by spending time asking questions about the objects of art they brought to the antique shows.

Stephen continued learning about art. He received a BS in Art History and Philosophy from Wichita State University. He pursued his studies earning a master's in art history from Northwestern University.  He continued his studies abroad on a Fulbright Fellowship at the University of Winchester and the Courtauld Institute of Art (London). Stephen then finished his studies back at Northwestern University earning a Ph.D. in Art History.

After his studies away Stephen returned to Wichita. He took on different roles the first was adjunct professor teaching art history and art appreciation at Wichita State University.  The next career was curator at the Wichita Art Museum. His final career was Art Appraisal of Art and Antiques.

Memorial services will be held at Saint James Episcopal Church 3750 East Douglas Ave. Wichita, KS. His service will be on June 27, 2024, at 1:30PM.
