Obituary

Sonya Marie (Blue) Cotton was born in Wichita, Kansas on June 1st, 1957, to Douglas L. Blue,
Sr. and Beatrice (Collins) Blue. She departed this journey quietly on June 16, 2024. She was
the oldest of two children to this union. Her parents, and her son Quincy L. Robinson preceded
her in death.


Sonya attended Wichita Public Schools, graduating in 1975 from Wichita West High School.
She attended the University of Kansas before starting her career with the State of Kansas. She
served in different roles in the registrar's office for Wichita State University, retiring in May 2022
after thirty years of service due to illness.


Sonya devoted herself to serving in the church and being the best mother possible to her
children.


Sonya received Jesus Christ at a young age at Greater St. Mary's Missionary Baptist Church.
She was actively involved with the church for over sixty years. Over the years she was active in
Sunday School, Baptist Training Union, the Energetics Youth Group, participated in various
choirs, served as a representative to the Southwest District Convention, the Kansas State
Baptist Convention and the National Baptist Convention. Throughout the years Sonya served
the church willfully in many different capacities as called upon to assist the church.


Sonya leaves to cherish her memory her son Christopher A. Cotton, Wichita, KS, her former
husband Gary Cotton of Wichita, KS, brother Douglas L. (Tonia) Blue, Jr. of Overland Park, KS,
niece Traci Blue of Arlington, VA and nephew Branden Blue of Overland Park, KS, aunts; Daisy
M. Blue of Wichita, KS, Barbara L. (Zachery) Ward of Kansas City, MO. and uncle, Howard E.
(Alene) Blue of Los Angeles, CA and a host of cousins and friends.
