Shirley Ann Horton-Jones, fondly known as Shirley to her friends and family, peacefully passed away on May 26, 2024, in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 86. She was born on September 14, 1937, in Checotah, Oklahoma, to the loving embrace of her parents, Andrew Horton and Leona McNac.
Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thurman Jones, who left this world before her, as well as her parents, Andrew and Leona. She is survived by her cherished children: Vera (Samuel) Bolden, Alicia (James) Ponds, Angela Karen Noble (Michael), Keith Jones, Treva C. Jones, Don Jones, and Tracy Tucker. Shirley leaves behind a legacy of love and family, including 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Dave Horton, and sister, Alice Horton.
Shirley dedicated many years of her life working as a USD 259 Para-Professional before retiring to enjoy her passions and hobbies. She was known for her warm and caring nature, always putting the needs of others before her own.
Her infectious laughter and kindness touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Shirley's contributions to her community and society will forever be remembered and cherished by those whose lives she impacted.
The wake to honor Shirley's life will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2024, 5-7PM at Jackson Mortuary, with the funeral service taking place on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Dellrose United Methodist Church, located at 1502 N. Dellrose. She will be laid to rest at the Old Mission Cemetery.
In the memories we hold dear, Shirley will forever be remembered for her unwavering love, strength, and compassion. Her absence leaves a void in our hearts that can never be filled, but the light she brought into our lives will continue to shine brightly, guiding us in her absence. May she rest in eternal peace.
