Pastor Lincoln
E. Montgomery
February 4, 1950 – September 12, 2022
Pastor Lincoln E. Montgomery, a Wichita native, was the youngest of three sons born
to Thadies Montgomery and Marguerite Ferguson Montgomery. He was raised with a
great value placed upon education and attended local public schools, graduating from
Wichita East High School in 1968. He married his high school sweetheart, Annie Kate
Dennis in 1974. He then earned his B.A. from Wichita State University in 1975. To
this union two children were born, daughter Jamai Sarah and son Jareau Thadies.
Pastor Montgomery would go on to receive his Master of Arts from Friends
University in 1993. This commitment to lifelong learning has demonstrated itself in
his ongoing completion of numerous theological and seminary certificates from
various institutions of Christian Education across the country, as well as serving as an
Adjunct Professor at Tabor College for 30 years.
Pastor Montgomery came of age within the Tabernacle Bible Church - The Church
Without Walls, formerly Tabernacle Baptist Church. Pastor Montgomery received his
call to the gospel ministry and was ordained in 1974. He served Tabernacle in various
capacities and was ultimately installed as Pastor in 1987 retiring August 31, 2022.
Pastor Montgomery was an exemplary husband, father, and grandfather to six
grandchildren. He and his wife recently celebrated 48 years of marriage. He loved
spending time with his family and extended family.
He traveled extensively, both nationally and internationally, while participating in
radio and television broadcasts. He was recognized for his service and contributions to
the community receiving multiple awards and accolades from churches, community,
state, and national organizations, including dozens of awards presented to Tabernacle
Bible Church under his pastoral leadership.
Preceded in death by parents, Thadies Montgomery and Marguerite Ferguson
Montgomery; brother, Ralph (Queen) Montgomery; son-in-law, Antonio Cortez
Barnes.
Survived by wife, Annie K. Montgomery; children, Jamai Montgomery-Barnes and
Jareau Montgomery; grandchildren, Jarez, Rachelle, Janiyah, Cameron, Jaisa, and
Sanaa; two brothers Robert (Phyllis) Montgomery and Marvin (Jane) Montgomery.
Pastor Montgomery never lost his unwavering commitment to preaching and teaching
the gospel of Jesus Christ because it is the power of God unto salvation for everyone
who believes! (Romans 1:16).
