Obituary

Odessa Moore was born Odessa Bright on May 30, 1931. Although very little information was shared with her surviving relatives and friends over the years, it is known that Odessa was a sassy but classy lady. A person who collected anyone and anything that she liked from dolls to moccasins and  jewelry;  from casual to formal wear with hair pieces to match;  from church members to neighbors and neighborhood cats. She possessed a winning personality with a beautiful smile and a soft chuckle that would attract anyone's attention. Yet she was also a lady who spoke her mind to everyone—friend or foe.

At one time in her life, Odessa lived in Lincoln, NB, where she worked at the University of Nebraska in maintenance.  There she met and married John H. Moore Sr., creating a blended family with five children. Upon retirement, Odessa and John decided to move to Wichita, KS, where John had a number of family members. Odessa made herself at home in Wichita. She interacted with her sister-in-laws as if she was born into their family. Odessa and John both accepted Christ as their personal Savior earlier in their lives. They chose to continue their fellowship at the Bible Way Community of Faith Church here in Wichita under the pastorate of Jeffrey L. Enlow, Sr.  As a member of Bible Way, Odessa begin collecting a body of friends and extended family members.

Odessa is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Sr.; two sons:  John Jr. and Michael Moore; one daughter: Vivian Standifer; one granddaughter:  Elander Standifer; and her best friend and sister in Christ, Sister Katie Mae Roberson.

On Sunday, April 3, as Odessa peacefully departed this life, she began collecting a bouquet of flowers. The first added to the banquet was her special nephew, Wilbur Peters. Along with Wilbur the bouquet included Patricia, Montez and Marquee Hudson, Keith Littlejohn Jr., Shawana Green, Jason Lee, Richard Moore, Doris Williams, other relatives, her brothers and sisters in Christ, her neighbors and her tabby.
