Nilus Nadine Kinard-Thornton, age 88, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away on May 7, 2025, in the same city where she was born on December 24, 1936. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, leaving a legacy of love and kindness that will be cherished by all who knew her.

Nilus was preceded in death by her parents Graze Kinard Sr. and Hattie Kinard, but is survived by her children Deserie Mannie, Dawn Clark, Lori Farris, and Dirk Thornton. She was also a cherished grandmother to 10 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Nilus is also survived by her brother Graze Kinard Jr. and sister Barbara Mathews.

A retired educator, Nilus dedicated her life to shaping young minds and inspiring future generations. Her contributions to her community were immeasurable, and her impact on the lives of her students will always be remembered.

A service to celebrate Nilus's life will be held on Monday, May 19, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Greater Holy Temple COGIC, followed by burial at Old Mission Cemetery.
