Mother Laverne
Walker
December 3, 1944 – January 16, 2025
"MOTHER" LAVERNE WALKER
Thursday, January 16, 2025... on the exact same day, seven years later...
after our beloved Father, Elder T.J. Walker transitioned to Heaven...
our beloved precious, loving, memorable, caring, our friend, our
Momma, LaVerne Walker transitioned to her Heavenly home also.
LaVerne was born to Elder Lewis Kirk and Edna Kirk-Newton on
December 3, 1944 in Artesia, New Mexico.
LaVerne moved from Artesia, New Mexico in her early childhood and
eventually settled in Wichita, Kansas, where she eventually met her
lifetime sweetheart Elder T. J. Walker. They fell in love, married, and
shared almost sixty earthly years together. Now they are reunited
together in eternity walking around Heaven. To this union three were
born. Mommy and Daddy had the distinct honor of enjoying and raising
seven beautiful children in their lovely home. Eight more beautiful
children were wrapped in total love and acceptance and became bonded
as family at very early ages.
LaVerne never met a stranger and always greeted everyone with the
loving truth and sometime that truth was in the form of tough love. She
was never in a hurry and was always patient. LaVerne had the same
patience for children as she did for adults. She had a special love for
motherless children and the special needs population. Mother LaVerne
Walker believed if one ate, we all ate and everyone loved LaVerne's
cooking.
LaVerne attended L'Ouverture, Horace Mann, Northeast Magnet
(Mathewson), and East High School. She attended nursing school where
she obtained her certified nursing aide certificate allowing her to serve
the geriatric population. She later went on to pursue a flourishing career
in aircraft and later retired from Boeing after honorably serving 38 years.
As a young child LaVerne loved the Lord and accepted the Lord Jesus
Christ as her very personal savior. She was spiritually gifted in the
prophetic, dreams, visions, and had healing in her hands. She walked in
the office of a wife and a supported her beloved husband in the ministry
as an Elder's wife, both in the church and at home. She attended Faith
Mission C.O.G.I.C. faithfully until she was no longer able to, due to
caring for her dear late husband, Elder T.J. Walker, and later her own
health challenges. She was also a major supporter of her daughters'
ministry, E. LaMonica Walker-McClish Ministries.
LaVerne is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elder T.J.
Walker; her father, Elder Lewis Kirk; her mother, Edna Kirk-Newton;
her children, Galen Whittker, Morris E. Whittker, Tommy Walker;
great-grandchild, Nautica P. Whittker; grandsons, Crawford Turner III
and Obama Whittker; brothers, Michael Kirk, Sylvester Kirk, Lloyd
(Bay-Boy) Kirk, and Jimmy; sisters, Baby Deloris Kirk, Minnie, Vallies,
Rovilla, and Vivian.
She leaves to cherish her memory: four daughters, whom she thought
were so "beautiful" – Edna Tasha Turner (The late Crawford Turner),
Pebbles L. Whittker (Paul), Prudence C. Billingsley (Greg), E. LaMonica
Walker-McClish (Robert); "Baby Boy" L.C. Walker, in addition to Mike
Walker, Joe Walker, and Raymond Walker, all of Wichita, Kansas; 9
grandchildren – Chase Turner, Shanekwa Whittker, LaVerne Toya
Saunders, L.C. "Lil' Mann" Walker, Stacey Walker, Marquise Billingsley,
Star Billingsley, VeQuan M. Clark, Jaionica Diamond-Jean Beard Lowe;
siblings, Bishop Shirley Brown, Rollie Bubba Kirk, Ocie Kirk, Danny,
and Phyllis; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren,
siblings, nephews, nieces, relatives, friends, and church family who loved
her dearly.
