Obituary

Mary Christa Lee Davis, affectionately known as "May," was born on December 25, 1921, in Wichita, Kansas, a Christmas Day blessing whose life reflected God's grace for 104 remarkable years. She was the eldest daughter of Charles A. Davis, Sr., and Mattie Greadington and a woman whose life bore witness to faith, endurance, and unwavering love.

Born just after World War I and coming of age during the Great Depression, Mary Lee witnessed the rise of the modern world. She lived through the Great Migration, World War II, the Civil Rights Movement, the desegregation of schools and workplaces, the election of the nation's first Black president, and the dawn of the digital age. Through each era, she remained anchored in her faith, trusting God to guide her steps as the world changed around her. Her life stood as a living testimony to resilience, perseverance, and the power of quiet strength.

Mary Lee was educated in Wichita Public Schools and was a woman of deep wisdom, shaped by experience, faith, and a lifetime of learning beyond the classroom. She later married George Grant Little, Sr., and from this union, five children were born. After the untimely passing of her husband, Mary Lee devoted her life to raising her children and nurturing her family. She never remarried, choosing instead to stand firmly in faith and responsibility, relying on God to sustain her.

Although she briefly lived in Chicago, Illinois, Mary Lee spent most of her life in Wichita, Kansas. She built a strong and respected work history, including roles as a receptionist, salesperson, and rover operator at Beech Aircraft Company. She also worked for many years at St. Francis and later with Urban Ministries, continuing her commitment to service and community. Her dedication and reliability reflected her deep belief in honest work, perseverance, and showing up for others. She retired in 1981 and enjoyed the blessings of rest and time with family.

A lifelong Christian, Mary Lee was a devoted member of Greater Holy Temple Church of God in Christ, the church founded by her uncle, Bishop Graze Kinard. Her faith was lived daily through service, humility, and love. Her walk with God was steady and sincere.

Known to family and friends as "May," she lived a long, joyful life marked by kindness, wisdom, and deep love for her family. She was a prayerful presence, a steady voice of reason, and a source of comfort and guidance across generations.

Mary Lee passed peacefully on February 5th, 2026, surrounded by loved ones, having completed her earthly assignment and answered God's call to rest.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Grant Little, Sr.; her children, Armand Lee Little and Mary Ann Jenise "Malika" Little; and her siblings Irene Black, Eva Williams, Charles A. Davis Jr., Connie Davis, John Ester Davis, Clarance Greadington, Sterling Greadington, James Hannah, and Johnetta Vaughn. She was the last living member of her generation of siblings.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children: George Grant Little Jr. of Los Angeles, California; Sandra "Fatima" Elaine Little Oganuwe of Wichita, Kansas; and Barry Eugene Little of Gardena, California; along with 31 grandchildren, more than 50 great-grandchildren, and a legion of great-great and great-great-great-grandchildren.

Mary Christa Lee Davis was the matriarch and spiritual covering of her family, a woman of faith whose prayers, love, and example shaped generations. She was a Queen in her own right, crowned with wisdom, grace, and strength. Though she has transitioned from this life, her legacy lives on through every life she touched and the faith she instilled. Well done, good and faithful servant. May your soul rest in the peace God promises, with those already in His care.
