Marilyn Dean Scott Obituary
Marilyn Dean Scott was born in Wichita, Kansas on November 2, 1942. She and her twin sister, Carolyn,
were the 5 th and 6 th of 16 children born to L.K. and Essie B. Clark. Marilyn matriculated through the
Wichita Public Schools System graduating with a High School Diploma from North High School in 1960.
She continued her education throughout her adult life with collegiate courses as well as getting a
culinary certification. Marilyn attended New Zion Baptist Church and made a commitment to Jesus
Christ at a young age. it was during these years that she made a commitment to Jesus Christ.
On November 4, 1962, she married the love of her life, Marion Scott, and to this union four children
were born. Marion and Marilyn began their married life serving the Lord at St. Mary's Baptist Church. In
1977, Marion became the Pastor of First Baptist Church and relocated his family. Marilyn loved
partnering with Marion in ministry and was gifted in teaching and administration. When Marion moved
back to Wichita, she relocated back and supported him at Antioch Baptist Church and Shekinah
Ministries. At each church she would develop detailed excel workbook that would track giving and even
attendance at times. After stepping down from pastoring, Marion and Marilyn faithfully supported
Giving God Praise Worship Center until they passed away.
Marilyn believed that a "person who does not work, doesn't eat", so she worked hard to help support
her family and be a faithful steward of the finances. As a result, she made it a point to have
employment. She was a dedicated employee of Phillips Petroleum, International Association of
Machinists and Aerospace Workers – District Lodge #70, Boeing and others. As a dedicated wife, she
also supported her husband in his businesses R&S BBQ, Scotties BBQ, Scott's Trash Service and the
Koffee Cup downtown eatery.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her Parents – L,K, and Essie B. Clark; Husband – Marion Scott; Sister –
Darlean Caldwell, Beverly Bird, and Joyce Freow; and Brothers – Robert Clark, Lewis Clark, and Ronnie
Clark.
She is survived by her children Tina (Peter) Wilson, Bryan (Denise) Scott, Marion Franklin Scott,
Monrovia (Jonathan) Scott. Grandchildren: Darius (Chitra) Wilson, Arianna Wilson, Immanuel Scott,
Aaron (Cierra) Scott, Tiffany (Jason) Boss and Hannah Jackson; Sisters: Charlene Friday, Carolyn Noble,
Shirley (Ron) Davis, Linda (Dave) Parker, Donna (Richard) Richardson; Best Friend: Earlene Newhouse;
Brother: Terry Wayne Clark; 5 Great-Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
