Marcia D. (Love) Walker was born April 20, 1948, in Omaha, Nebraska to Clarence and
Ollie Love, who preceded her in death. Marcia was the seventh of nine children born to this
union.
Marcia completed her education in the Wichita Public School system. After graduating
from East High School, she went to Oklahoma City University where she obtained her teaching
degree. After graduation, she married Wendell Walters Sr., and to this union Wendell Jr.,
Trevonne and Tamila were born. She taught in the Wichita Public School District several years
before becoming a programmer with Metropolitan Life, where she retired.
Marcia gave her life to Christ at a very young age. She was baptized at the 11th Street
Church of Christ congregation. She remained faithful to Christ, and attended Northwest Church
of Christ until her death.
Marcia would later marry Winston K. Walker in 1983. She and Winston relocated to
Westminster, Colorado in 1989, where they became very active members in the community.
Winston proceeded her in death in 2019.
While she may have left the teaching profession, she was always a teacher at heart.
Whether doing reenactments of African American history in the James P. Beckworth Club or
teaching others the craft of sewing and quilting, Marcia found value in sharing her knowledge
with others. She was a part of many organizations such as Sister to Sister, Colorado Touch of
Color Doll Club (one of Colorado's only African American Doll Clubs), and most recently as the
president of the Rocky Mountain Wa Shonaji Quilt Guild. In addition to quilting, she was an
avid collector of dolls and loved to travel. She and Winston routinely went on jazz cruises and
visits to see grandkids.
Marcia & #39's boundless love embraced not only her immediate family but also extended to her
wide circle of friends. She expressed her affection through the art of quilt-making, creating
tangible tokens of warmth and love for her family. She possessed a unique and heartfelt way of
connecting with each family member, ensuring they felt the depth of her love and care. Marcia
often spoke fondly of her brothers and sisters, many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and
children.
Marcia is survived by her son, Wendell Walters Jr. of Wichita, Kansas, Trevonne
Marshall (Chris) of Shreveport, Louisiana, Tamila Cooper of Lowell, Massachusetts; brother
Kenneth Love (Teddi) of Palmdale, California; four grandchildren, Maurice Brown, Makayla
Marshall, Makera Marshall, and Makenzie Marshall, along with a host of relatives and friends.
In celebrating her life, we honor the beautiful connections she fostered and the countless
hearts she touched. Marcia & #39's memory will forever be engraved in the stories of love and joy she
shared with all who were privileged to know her.
