Mae Akins was born March 3, 1961, in Holly springs, Mississippi. She was the fourth child born to Wille B. and Alberta Akins. Mae was educated in the Kansas City, Kansas School District.

Mae was a loving and caring person who loved spending time with family and friends. Mae became disabled at a very young age but didn't let that stop her. Mae loved going to the casino and playing bingo. She would give her last to anybody that asked.

Mae departed this earth on June 2, 2024, at Open Arms HomePlus in Wichita, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie B. and Alberta Akins; her sisters, Beauty B. Wright, Darlene Akins; her nephew, Charles Akins; and her brother-in-law, Larry Wright.

Mae leaves behind her children, Antwan Akins and Cortez Akins; her four sisters, Josephine Akins, Mary Akins, Patricia Akins, and Bobbie Jean (Richard) Ellingberg; her six grandchildren; her uncles, her aunts, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She also leaves behind a special friend, Darrick Harvey.
