Obituary

Lena Joan Breckenridge was born in Boley, Oklahoma on August 26, 1943, to Alton A. Allen and Eliza Johnson Allen. The eldest of seven children, Lena moved with her family to Wichita, Kansas where she accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Progressive Baptist Church. She was a good student and graduated from East High School. Lena was known for her quick wit and infectious laugh. She loved to cook and nobody could resist her cornbread dressing.

Lena was married for 65 years to the love of her life, Ray Dean Breckenridge. To this union, two children and one grandchild were born, Erick Dean, Erin Ray and Ariana Nicole. The family faithfully attended mass at Holy Savior Catholic Church. Lena and Ray liked to prepare funeral dinners for their parishioners. She was an active member of The Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary and considered church members her extended family. Throughout their marriage, Lena and Ray enjoyed attending mass, socializing with friends, traveling, playing the slots at casinos and playing lottery scratch-offs.

Lena was employed by the Sedgwick County Health Department in Wichita. She faithfully worked at the department for more than 30 years. She was a loyal friend to many of her coworkers with whom she remained close long after retirement.

Lena peacefully entered eternity on March 10, 2026. She is preceded in death by her father, Alton Allen Sr.; sisters, Ella Mae Allen and Vickie Jenkins; and brother, Alton Allen Jr. She will be remembered for her love of God, dedication to her family and sense of humour.

Lena loved her family and encouraged them to be happy, respected and successful. Left to cherish her memory: mother, Eliza; husband and constant companion, Ray; sons Erick (Donnie) and Erin; granddaughter, Ariana; sisters: Elaine Sparks and Joyce Hayes; brothers: Steve (Edna) and Joseph; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Specifically, Maryon, Sabrina, Dorthea, Tanda and Trinisha whom she considered daughters.
