Obituary

Kevin James ("KP") Porter passed away November 24, 2025. He was surrounded by his loving sister, life-long friends and devoted clergy.

He is preceded in death by his parents James (Jim) Porter, Jr. and Alice (Hughes) Porter, also siblings Gloria Jean Porter, Keith Darnell Porter and Kirk Lamont Porter.

A man of faith he was baptized at an early age at the 11th Street Church of Christ which transitioned into Chilsom Trail Church of Christ. There a strong spiritual foundation was developed which inspired him to embrace an unending relationship with God. He was a faithful member at Madison Avenue Church of Christ until his passing.

Kevin attended Wichita Public Schools and graduated from Wichita South High in 1982. He was awarded a football scholarship to attend Dodge City Community College and in 1984 earned dual Associates of Arts degrees in General Studies and Communications Technology. Due to his excellent skills in working with athletes and coaches a scholarship was extended to him to attend the University of Arizona where in 1988 he earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in Media Communications.

Kevin enjoyed a successful 14-year career in the professional sports management industry which involved the executive management of two outstanding National Basketball Association (NBA) players who played for the Denver Nuggets, Chicago Bulls, Orlando Magic, Detroit Pistons to name a few.  Due to an unexpected major incident, that occurred with a player, Kevin was often interviewed by major TV networks that well documented what occured. A change in his
career presented him with opportunities in the business sector utilizing his management experience and concise communication skills in negotiating contracts in the entertainment industry and securing investors for real estate and construction projects.

However, Kevin's most rewarding occupation was as a Senior Direct Support Specialist with the Work on Work In-Sync, Inc, (WOW In-Sync, Inc.) Hands for Hire Non-profit organization in Peachtree City, Georgia. Kevin provided direct support to persons with developmental and intellectual disabilities facilitating and implementing a pre-designed curriculum and promoted self-help, socialization and pre-vocational skills. His personable approach with the persons he served was well respected. Kevin loved working with his management team and co-workers. He worked there until
his health begin to fail and he moved back home to Wichita.

Kevin was an avid sports enthusiast and prided himself as being an armchair coach for his team of choice...The Kansas
City Chiefs! He enjoyed watching most sports on TV especially anything NBA and NFL game related. He liked talking about sports with anyone who would listen including his family, friends, doctors and strangers who were wearing KC Chiefs gear! He even had his prosthetic customized with the KC Chiefs logo!

Kevin loved to engage in serious conversations but was also fun loving with a quick-witted personality. He enjoyed talking and laughing with his family and friends. He would get so tickled that he couldn't talk! His "Kevinisms" such as "You Got Your Last Click Out of Me" or "I'm the Last of the Mohicans!" would have everyone rolling! Kevin also enjoyed getting recipes from the internet and trying out his cooking skills. He also tried out acting and had a small part in the movie "Sunday Mornings".

Although Kevin had major health challenges he courageously and bravely pushed through them with God's Grace and Mercy until God saw that it was too much for him and called him home. He is with the Lord now and his mind, body and soul are all brand new!! To God Be the Glory!!

Kevin will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
