Joyce Marie
Davis
October 5, 1937 – September 30, 2024
Mother Joyce Marie Davis was born October 5, 1937, in Springfield, Ohio. The second child born to Vera and Thomas Butler. Mother Davis attended public schools and graduated from Springfield Senior High in 1952. Her family was dedicated to the Church of God. At the age of fourteen she moved to Oakland, California with her uncle Elder Phillip Butler and his wife Sister Louise Butler, who were Pastors of Perry Temple C.O.G.I.C. There she was saved, baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost. She joined the choir, attended Bible Study and assisted the church cook during convocations.
Soon after Mother Davis attended the C.O.G.I.C. Holy Convocation where she met Reverend Kenneth L. Davis. They began writing each other, fell in love, and were married in 1954. Their journey of faith continued in Wichita, KS where her father-in-law, Elder H.W. Davis pastored Planeview C.O.G.I.C., his wife Mother Leona Davis mentored her, then she was licensed as an Evangelist Missionary, and became State Purity President.
She taught and mentored young women and encouraged them to live a life of Christ. Her brother-in-law, Elder H.O. Davis began The New Covenant C.O.G.I.C. of which she named. She and her husband sang, played the piano, taught Sunday School, and transported young people to church. She continued her work assisting her husband in organizing the Religious Singers and Musicians Conference which generated funds for scholarships.
Later the Lord called them to Salina, KS where they started Faith Temple C.O.G.I.C. As First Lady she hosted the State Women's Conventions where she encouraged, inspired, and empowered women to love God, love their husband and their children as their first ministry. When she sang sermonic solos, lives began to change, people were healed, and souls were saved by the power of the Holy Ghost. Continuing the work of the Lord, Mother Davis and her husband were instrumental in establishing a second church, Immanuel Outreach C.O.G.I.C. in Wichita, KS.
Under the leadership of Bishop J.C. Gilkey and Mother Martha C. Walker, Kansas Southwest Jurisdiction appointed her as Facilitator of Religious Education, the Women's Convention, and Chairperson for the Missionary Women's Licensing Board.
As a devoted First Lady she served, hosted and loved many through the expression of her culinary skills. Mother Joyce Davis was gifted with love, compassion and many gifts of the spirit. As a virtuous woman, she trained and developed all of her children at a young age, through strong teaching, prayer, culinary skills and sewing. Because of this commitment all seven of her children are serving the Lord in their local communities as they rise up and call her blessed. For her price was far above rubies (Proverbs 31:10).
She spent precious hours with family and close friends and poured into the lives of young people. Her legacy will live forever in the hearts of her children; grandchildren, great grandchildren and many lives she touched. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, First Lady and friend to everyone. She was greeted at heaven's gates by Jesus, alongside her husband Reverend Kenneth L. Davis; her mother, Vera Butler; her father, Thomas Butler; sister, Gloria Smith; two brothers, Sonny Butler, and Larry Butler; her grandchildren, Kapria Davis and Corinthian Bradshaw.
Those left to continue her legacy are her seven children, Keita Lewis (Richard), JoAnn Redic (Clarence), Deborah Daniels, Melinda Johnson (Timothy), Kenneth Davis Jr., Jacqueline McGilbray (Darren), Krystal Thomas (Billy); 28 Grandchildren, 18 Great Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
