Obituary

In Loving Memory of Graze Isaiah Kinard Jr.

Graze Isaiah Kinard Jr., aged 93, of Wichita, Kansas, departed from this life on February 27, 2026. He was born in Wichita, Kansas, on April 29, 1932, to his devoted parents.

Graze exemplified remarkable dedication and patriotism. He devoted 23 years of honorable service to our country as a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force and as a Military Vietnam Veteran, committing many years to safeguarding the freedoms we cherish. Serving in the Air Force was a fitting choice for Graze, a graduate of Wichita East High School, class of 1950, known as the "Blue Aces" and represented by the mascot "Max," a World War I flying ace.

During his tenure in the Air Force, Graze met his lovely and cherished wife, Taeko, while stationed in Tokyo, Japan, where their first child, Gary, was born and attended school. Their other two sons, Darnell and Michael, were born in Wichita, Kansas, yet they hold their Japanese heritage (and cuisine) in high esteem.

Following his retirement from military service, Graze continued to exemplify his strong work ethic and craftsmanship, dedicating his second career to the Boeing Sheet Metal Aircraft team for more than a decade. His commitment to his profession was only outshone by his affection for his family and friends.

Graze was an enthusiastic golfer, playing several times a week (Pre-COVID) with his sons and fellow members of the McAdams Golf Club, one of the oldest golf clubs in the country, which has a rich history of cultural and community importance.

After an enjoyable round of golf, Graze was recognized for his regular visits to the 19th hole (commonly referred to as the watering hole), the American Legion Post 273, where he was a respected and active member and where he met his life partner of over 27 years, Bonnie, who affectionately called him "Smiley" and was a volunteer at that location.

Besides golf, Graze's other leisure activities included traveling to bowling tournaments as a member of the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) and, in his younger years, participating in amateur boxing matches, still showcasing impressive lightning-fast jabs and proper technique at the age of 93.

Graze was preceded in death by his parents, Bishop Graze Sr. and Hattie (McBee) Kinard; his wife, Taeko Kinard; his son, Michael Kinard; his brothers, James and Malcolm Kinard; and his sister, Nilus Kinard-Thorton.

He is survived by his life partner, Lavonda (Bonnie) Turner, along with his children, Gary Kinard and Darnell (Karen) Kinard; his grandsons, Brandon Kinard and Cameron (Cambria) Kinard; his granddaughters, Anice (Dante) Alexander and Aleeya Kinard - Lowe; as well as his great-grandsons, Camden and Campbell Kinard; and his great-granddaughters, Angalice, Arianna, and Camora Kinard; his sister, Barbara Matthews; Bonnie's children, Marage Mitchell, Tiffany and LaTrice Porter, along with Bonnie's grandchildren; and a multitude of family and friends who will miss his presence but will forever cherish his memory in their hearts.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the love and support they have received during this challenging time. We cordially invite you to join the family in honoring the numerous contributions made by Graze, allowing us to share treasured memories during the wake on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 6 PM in the Jackson Mortuary Chapel. A celebration of Graze's life will take place on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Holy Temple COGIC. Interment will follow at the Old Mission Cemetery.

Graze, your absence will be profoundly felt in our lives, but the love and memories you have left behind will remain with us forever. Rest in peace until we meet again.
