Obituary

Grace Maxine Smart, age 89, of Kansas City, MO, was born on May 2, 1937, in Beggs, Oklahoma, to her loving parents Ezekiel and Martha Williamson. She peacefully passed away at home on July 3, 2026.

Grace was united in marriage to the love of her life, Earl Smart, with whom she shared an extraordinary 64-year union. Their deep and enduring love was an inspiration to all who knew them. Throughout their marriage, Earl provided Grace with the absolute highest level of love and care. He, our uncle Earl, is a role model for men who aspire to live and function as Godly husbands. Grace was a dedicated and loving housewife who supported and cared for him throughout their amazing marriage.

Grace will be lovingly remembered as a faithful woman who was devoted to God, treasured by her beloved husband, Earl, and deeply loved by her entire family, including siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.

She had a remarkable gift for creating the most delicious home-cooked meals and was cherished for her delightful sense of humor and quick wit. Grace was known for her beauty, warmth, and as “everyone’s favorite auntie-momma,” as fondly noted by her cousin Peggy.

She was the family’s pillar of strength, always offering wise and comforting words to those in need. Grace was the rock we turned to during times of loss and hardship, unwavering in her support and love.

Her conversations with her sister Martha always began with both of them greeting each other by saying, “I want my sister.” Her sister Barbara recalls Grace’s heartfelt farewell, always saying, “I love you more,” before hanging up the phone. These are just a few beautiful memories that now contribute to our family's legacy of love for one another.

Grace is survived by her husband Earl Smart, aunt Avatener Williamson-Gladney; siblings James Williamson (Betty), Charles Collins, Martha Benat, Barbara DeJear (Reginald), Earl Collins, Robin A. Taylor, John Collins (Eva); and a host of nieces, nephews, and other cherished loved ones.

Our lives are forever changed by Grace’s presence, love, and legacy.
