Glenn Nelson,
Jr.
December 15, 1936 – December 26, 2024
Our beloved Pastor Glenn Carl Nelson, Jr. peacefully passed on December 26, 2024, and he lived a complete and abundant 88 years of life.
Glenn was born on December 15, 1936, to Rosa and Glen Nelson in Toilette, AR. Glenn was the eldest of his five brothers: The twins, William and Willard, Harold, Donald, and Phillip.
He attended school in Toilette, AR, and attended Sumner High School in Kansas City, KS. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged. In the year of the Lord, 1959, he accepted the call to preach, and he was licensed by Rev. S.J. Mashaw in Kansas City, KS, and preached his first sermon on November 22, 1959. Later, he received his theological studies degree at Missouri Western College in St. Joesph, MO, and received his honorary Doctorate in Ministry at Alpine Bible College in Denver, CO.
On May 25, 1962, Glenn married the love of his life, his wife of 61 years, Emogene A. Nelson, who loved him dearly until she passed away in June 2023. In their union of marriage, he and his wife have four loving surviving children: Glenn Carl Nelson III, Glenda Moore (Thurman), Carla Hughes (Jon), and Bethany Gipson (Munterrius).
During Pastor Nelson's lifelong pastoral journey, he served in a pastoral role for sixty plus years.
In September 1962, he was assigned to pastor at First Church C.M.E in Des Moines, IA. In May 1964, he transferred into the 5th District A.M.E Church and pastored churches throughout the Mid-West. In the 1980's, noting that Pastor Nelson is truly an evangelistic preacher he independently pastored Trinity Full Gospel Pentecostal Church in Denver, CO. Pastor Nelson rejoined the A.M.E church, he and his wife relocated to Cheynne, WY then later moved and settled in the Pacific Northwest and pastored Primm Tabernacle, in Seattle, WA. He completed his full-time pastoral journey at Grant Chapel, in Wichita, KS September 2006, and he continued faithfully serving as a Supply Pastor as needed in Great Bend, KS. Pastor Nelson fully retired in 2020 within the 5th District A.M.E. Church. Although Pastor Nelson retired, he never stopped sharing and teaching the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
His heartfelt prayers, his unconditional love, and his legacy will be cherished forever.
His parents Rosa and Glen Nelson, his brothers, William and Willard, his grandson De-Jonte Hughes, and his loving wife Emogene proceeded him in death. The bible says in Isaiah 25:9: In that day, "Surely this is our God; we trusted in him; let us rejoice and glad in his salvation".
He leaves to cherish all his best and amazing memories with his four children Glenn C III, Glenda, Carla Bethany, and loving his in-laws. His eight grandchildren, Ryan, Jordan, Crystal, Garrick, Denishea, Javon, Isaiah, Elijah, and eight great-grandchildren. His loving brothers, Harold, Donald, and Phillip.
