Obituary for Geraldine S. Taylor

Geraldine S. Taylor (Yarbrough), lovingly referred to as "Gerri", was born on April 9, 1938, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma as the middle child and only daughter of Zula Ruth Yarbrough and Sterling Lafayette Yarbrough.  She moved with her family at a young age to Wichita, Kansas, where she received her formal education from East High School and a certificate in computer programming from Wichita Trade School.

Although Gerri spent the majority of her adult life in Wichita, Kansas, she was passionate about exploring the world, which led her to live in places like Oakland, CA, Los Angeles, CA, Panama City, FL, Dayton, OH, New Jersey, and the United Kingdom. She even visited far corners of the world like Holland, France, Hawaii, China, Thailand and Mexico. Once Gerri settled back home in Wichita, she began working at Beech Aircraft (Raytheon), where she remained a dedicated employee for many years.  However, later in life, her love and patience for kids led her to work with the school district as a bus monitor.

Now, if you knew Gerri, you know she loved shopping, often buying unique and unusual items. She especially loved the Home Shopping Network and testing out new skincare products. Her hobbies included travel, fine dining, trying new recipes, dancing, attending jazz festivals, listening to gospel music, and most importantly, spending time with her family.

As a woman of God and avid church goer, Gerri accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and spent many Sundays at her mother's home church, Calvary Baptist. However, she became a member and served as an usher at St. Paul AME Church in Wichita, Kansas.

On Wednesday, December 20, 2023, Gerri's spirit departed her earthly body at the age of 85 years old with her family by her side.  She was preceded in death by her mother and father, as well as her older brother, John Howard Yarbrough, sister-in-love, Cecial Yarbrough, and nephew, Troy Yarbrough.  She is survived by her younger brother, Earl Glenn (Patricia) Yarbrough of Chesterfield, Virginia; her cousins, Felicia (Michael "Butch") Collins of Kansas City, Kansas and Robin Crigler of Wichita, Kansas, Marsha Joslin, Gwen Simpson, John (Beatrice) Simpson, Alma Robinson; and second cousin, Kashena Adams Thorpe; her two loving children, Delbra "Del" P. (Curren) Richardson Price of Los Angeles, California, and Kevin L. Taylor of Wichita, Kansas, both of whom she adored; her five grandchildren, Dennis D. (Toshie) Richardson of San Pedro, California, Dakira (Joseph) Williams of Rialto, California, Kavon (Kara) Taylor of Wichita, KS, Lataiza Taylor of Hammond, LA, and Love Jones of Wichita, Kansas; her five great-grandchildren, Chelan Richardson of Glenn Heights, Texas, Kai Richardson of San Pedro, California, Zayla and Ziyah Williams of Rialto, California, and Keziah Taylor of Wichita, Kansas; her five nieces, Denise Fields, Brenda Russell, and Eunice Yarbrough of Wichita, Kansas, Kim Yarbrough of Smyrna, Georgia, and Angela Yarbrough of Van Nuys, California; her three nephews, Terry Yarbrough of Wichita, Kansas, E.J. Yarbrough of Jackson, Mississippi, and Del Harris of Richmond, Virginia; her three grandnieces, Darice Martin and Sarah Myers of Wichita, Kansas, and Sameera Heckman of Warner Robins, Georgia; her five nephews, Joseph Yarbrough, Bruce E.
