From a young age, Gary was active in his faith, attending church at Timothy Baptist Church alongside his beloved grandfather, Roy William Platt, Sr. There he and his sister, Kristal Lyons, created many memories and nurtured the roots of community, family, and faith.
Gary attended public school in Tulsa, Oklahoma, up to the 8th grade, before taking a significant step in his life by enrolling in Job Corps in Chadron, Nebraska. There, he pursued and graduated with a trade in Building Maintenance, a skill that would serve him well in his future career.
After completing his studies, Gary moved back to Tulsa for a few years. Later, he and his cousins, Marcus and Dajuan, relocated to Bellevue, Nebraska. His strong work ethic was evident throughout his life. Gary worked for Wilson's Concrete in the Steel Shack in Bellevue for 5 years, a job that he was proud of. He later moved to Wichita, Kansas, where he continued to work hard, first at Cisro's Restaurant, and then at Popeyes. Gary also worked for Coleman's for several years and held various jobs until his health began to fail.
