Obituary

Mr. Edward Reed, Jr. was born on June 6, 1949, in Emmet, Arkansas, to the proud parents Edward Reed, Sr. and Lorener Allen Reed. Affectionally known by family as "June" and by friends as "Ed".  Rooted in faith from an early age, Edward accepted Christ and united with Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. J.K. Irving. His spiritual foundation guided him throughout his life's journey.

He began his education at Hopewell Elementary and Yerger High School in Arkansas. At the age of 17, Ed moved to Yuma, Arizona, where he completed his high school studies at Yuma High School. Shortly thereafter, he was drafted into the United States Armed Forces. Ed served his country with distinction for three years, including a tour in Vietnam.  His military service is a lasting legacy of honor, courage, and deep patriotism.

Following his military service, Ed built a successful and fulfilling career as a substitute material clerk at Raytheon Aircraft, where he worked with excellence and dedication until his retirement. His work ethic, sense of responsibility, and commitment to excellence were admired by all who knew him.

Beyond his service and career, Ed was a man full of warmth, spirit, and light. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, cherished brother and loyal friend. He was known for his infectious laugh and quick wit; he loved to tell jokes and share stories that kept his family and friends smiling. To know Ed was to know joy. His ability to find humor and lightness in everyday moments was a gift that brought comfort and laughter to those around him.

Affectionately known as the Grill Master, Ed's cooking was a beloved centerpiece at gatherings. Family and friends would travel from near and far to enjoy his legendary meals and soak in the love and laughter that surrounded his grill. Ed remained active in his community as a member of the American Legion and the North East Optimist Club, continuing to give back until his health began to decline.

In his later years, he was baptized again under the leadership of Rev. Jesse Frazier, Sr., renewing his spiritual walk. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Reed, Sr. and Lorener Allen Reed; his brothers, Clifford Reed, John Reed, and Robert Reed Harris; and his sisters, Florine Hawkins, Jessie Rhodes, and Shirley Brown.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and joy, carried forward by his beloved wife of 30 years, Rebecca Hunt Reed; daughters: Patrice Reed (Wichita, KS), Lisa Reed Vaughn (Robert) (Hope, AR), Towanda Herron (Texas) and Denise Tucker (Baruti) (Augusta, GA); sons: Reginald Thompson (Alicia) (Wichita, KS) and Cornelius Pickens(Arizona); 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; one brother, Riley Williams (Carrie) (Wichita, KS); three sisters: Estiza Dennis (Texarkana, TX), Daisy Patterson, and Brenda Morgan (Hope, AR); five sisters-in-law: Merri Reed(Wichita, KS), Brenda Hunt, Susan Smith (Tulsa, OK), Melba Fields (Melvin), (Tulsa, OK); and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Though he is no longer with us in body, the laughter, love,

and wisdom he shared will live on in our hearts and homes.

Rest well, Mr. Edward Reed, Jr.
