Obituary

Mr. Dale K. Allen, affectionately known as "DK" was a veteran, longtime entrepreneur and beloved community member of Wichita Kansas.  Dale K. Allen, born on March 9th, 1942, was the son of the late Henry Will Allen and Annie Maud Bruce (Allen) of Hartford Connecticut.  In his formal schooling years, Dale, developed a love for the sport of basketball, and rose to become a high school basketball star of Weaver High School in Hartford, Connecticut, where he graduated in 1960.  After graduation, Mr. Allen enlisted in the United States Air Force.  While stationed in Fayetteville, North Carolina, DK attended Fayetteville State University, a public Historically Black University.  Majoring in Criminal Justice, Mr. Allen trained and participated in civil disobedience with fellow students.  In 1960, Mr. Allen's life pivoted from continuing his studies after being attacked and arrested for participating in a lunch counter demonstration by a white mob.  Years after an honorable discharge from the United States Air Force, DK established himself in Wichita, Kansas as an entrepreneur and active community member, holding membership with the Prince Hall Freemasons and the American Legion.  In between business ventures, Mr. Allen resumed his educational pursuits at Langston University, another public Historically Black University in Langston, Oklahoma where he earned his Bachelor of Arts.

Our dearly departed was predeceased by his brother John Robert Allen. Mr. Allen is survived by his sister Dolores Adrienne Howard, brother Gregory Bellamy Allen (sister-in-law Andrea Namnoun-Allen), nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends in Connecticut, Texas, California, Wichita, and Oklahoma. May his legacy of stewardship for the family and community live on.  "It is what it is." - DK Allen.
