Obituary

Clarence Pelton was born June 8, 1928. He received his education from the Wichita Public School District. On November 26, 1949, he married the love of his life, Rosa Lee Jones. They were married for 65 years until her death in October 2015.

He was employed at O. A. Sutton Co. and Cudahy Meat Packing Plant until, he and his brother, Joe Halcromb co-managed the Derby Gas Station. In 1970, he worked at the City of Wichita Police Department, Warrant Office, first as an officer and then later as its manager.

Clarence loved fishing and making succulent barbecue for family and friends. Many people, far and wide, sought out his famous barbecue sauce and chai -chai.

Above all, he had an unwavering love for God, his family and his church family at the Hydraulic Street Church of Christ and the Chisholm Trail Church of Christ. He was ordained as a Deacon and then as an Elder, which he served for almost five decades, beginning in 1974. He taught many church classes as well as created and led many church programs, including, most notably, Children's Church and his signature Marriage Class, which he taught to generations of couples for four decades.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Avery and David Pelton, his wife Rosa Lee Pelton and his brother, Jonathan Halcromb. He leaves his five children, Michael Guice (Jan), Wichita, Marvin Lee Pelton, Boston Massachusetts, LaDonna Dozier (Anthony) , Teresa Pelton and Kimberly Pelton all of Wichita as well as his sister, Nadine Gordon (Gerald), Kansas City, Kansas. A host of relatives and friends.
