Charles "Sto"
Dwayne Stovall
January 9, 1946 – August 1, 2025
Born on January 9, 1946, Charles Dwayne (affectionately known as "Sto") was the cherished son of Charles and Juanita Stovall, who preceded him in death along with his son Monty Stovall. His legacy, however, lives on through his loving wife, LaNetra Halcromb Stovall, to whom he was married on January 9, 2008. Together, they created a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and a devotion to family.
Educated in the Wichita Public School System, Dwayne was a remarkable athlete during his time at East High School, excelling in football, basketball, baseball, and track and field. He made history as the first four-letterman at East High and graduated in 1964 before furthering his education at Coffeyville Community College, where he graduated in 1966. His talent on the field earned him recognition, and in 2016, he was inducted into the Coffeyville Community College Hall of Fame as a receiver for the 1964-65 seasons. Although he briefly attended North Texas State University, his journey took an unexpected turn when he was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds, a testament to his exceptional athletic prowess.
Professionally, Dwayne dedicated over 20 years to public service, making significant contributions to the Wichita Fire Department, where he served with distinction as Battalion Chief and Operations Division Commander until he retired in August 1996. He later continued his service with the Wichita Sheriff's Department as a Civil Deputy. His commitment to his community was paralleled only by his loyalty to his family and childhood friends, which left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered.
Dwayne was not just a public servant and athlete; he was also an avid sports enthusiast and a master on the grill. His passion for sports was evident in every conversation and every game watched with friends and family.
As we celebrate the life of Dwayne Stovall, we remember a man who was a beacon of strength and resilience whose spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. Dwayne's legacy of loyalty, love, and commitment to family will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
Dwayne is survived by his devoted wife, LaNetra, his sisters, Cheryl Woods, Accokeek, MD, and Frances Stovall, Wichita, KS, and his stepson, Bronson Blackwell (Sheron), Houston, TX, nephew Marcus Brown, Beaumont, TX, nieces Shaunda Harrell-Frazier, Accokeek, MD, Lynnett Harrell, Waldorf, MD, grandnephew Ca'Ron, and grandniece Sariyah. He leaves behind a loving family, including a host of additional grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, and friends who will treasure his memory forever.
