Charles Davis was born on March 31, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois, to Elijah Davis, Sr. and Ancie Davis.

Charles discovered his passion for drawing and painting at the age of five. Blessed with a remarkable talent for capturing the beauty and emotion of the world on paper and canvas, his artwork had the unique ability to make people laugh, reflect, and sometimes even cry. For more than 50 years, he traveled throughout the United States exhibiting his work at juried art shows, earning numerous Best of Show and First Place awards. His artistic accomplishments included commissions from the City of Wichita, where he created two paintings for the Redbud Trail, as well as many works for Wichita State University. His paintings are also displayed throughout the USD 259 school system, leaving a lasting artistic legacy in the community he loved.

Charles was one of ten children and cherished his family deeply. He looked forward to making several trips each year to Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he enjoyed spending time with his siblings, nieces, and nephews. For 33 years, Charles dedicated his career to teaching art in USD 259 before retiring. As an art teacher, he inspired countless students to discover their own creativity and confidence. Even after his retirement, many former students continued to visit him, a testament to the lasting impact he had on their lives.

Charles also treasured his lifelong friendships. He loved opening his home to family and friends, especially for sporting events and holiday gatherings. During his prolonged illness, which gradually limited his mobility, those friendships became an extraordinary source of strength and support. His friends faithfully accompanied him to doctor's appointments, lunches, and barbershop visits, and they were always there whenever they were needed. Their loyalty and love meant more than words can express. The family extends a special thank you to Brenda’s niece, Malaika Bell, whose constant presence, kindness, and support were a tremendous blessing.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Elijah Davis, Sr. and Ancie Davis; his sisters: Grace Griffin and Lenetha Davis; and his brother, Jesse Davis. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Brenda K. Davis; his siblings, Larine (Jessie) Swain, Elijah (Joyce) Davis Jr., Sharon Davis, Linda Davis, and Alvin (Tracy) Davis, all of Fort Wayne, Indiana; his sister, Catherine Boyd of Selma, Alabama; his uncle, Jack Shannon (Bettie) of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and a host of cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, former students, and all whose lives were enriched by his extraordinary gifts as an artist, teacher, husband, brother, and friend.

Charles will be remembered not only for his exceptional artistic talent, but also for his generous spirit, his love of family and friends, and the countless lives he touched through his art, his teaching, and his unwavering kindness. His legacy will continue to live on through the beauty he created and the people he inspired.
