Gracey
April 22, 1932 – April 15, 2026
Betty Jean Gracey was born on April 22, 1932, to Longino Logan and Lillian
Johnson in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Her mother, Lillian, moved from Boley,
Oklahoma to Arkansas to have Betty. After Betty was born, Lillian, moved back
to Boley with her mother, Ida (Benford) Johnson. Lillian left Betty with her
mother (Ida) and her uncles Leo Johnson, Raymond Johnson, Jewell Johnson,
AC Johnson, etc. and one aunt, Lucille Johnson. It was a household filled with 15
children. Lillian easily found housework in Oklahoma City and would mail Betty
new dresses every week.
Lillian Johnson met and married Leslie Stevenson and they lived in Oklahoma
City. After going to live with her mother Betty graduated from Oklahoma City
High School.
Uncle AC Johnson and Leslie Stevenson (her bonus father) bought land beside
each other and later ended up moving the their houses to Oklahoma City. They
completely renovated the houses with a modern stone look to the properties.
Betty learned to drive very early at age 13 her Uncle Raymond used to make her
drive from Oklahoma City to Boley every couple of weeks to pick him up from
work. He would fall asleep after making sure Betty stopped at every stop sign.
Betty married Billy James Gracey in May of 1951. They moved to Wichita, Kansas
and resided there for the rest of their lives . They were the proud parents of
twelve precious children.
Betty always believed in the Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, and was
committed to walking with the Lord her entire life. She made it a priority to get
her children to church every time the doors were open and raised her children to
understand the importance of knowing God and studying the Bible.
Betty was a real estate investor and worked with her best friend Mary Henley,
who was a realtor. At one point in time she owned an entire block and managed
over 100 investment properties several of which were handed down to her
children.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Billy James Gracey, her
paternal parent Longino Logan; grandmother Ida (Bedford) Johnson, parents
Lillian (Leslie) Stevenson, all her uncles and aunt who were siblings and son(s)
Nathaniel Gracey and Gregory Gracey and son in-law James Pettie.
She leaves to cherish her memory, Sister- in-Law Julia Ann Holmes, James
Gracey, Sharon Pettie (Dallas, TX), Emanuel (Beverley) Gracey, Samuel Gracey,
Melody (Clyde) Johnson, Michael (Linda) Gracey, Leticia (Orlando) Ross,
Rosherry Gracey, Rochelle Gracey, and Jennifer Vierthaler, all of Wichita, and a
Celebration of life
