Amelia Waldenia Winesberry Scott was the second daughter born to William Winesberry and Dora Loueida Childs Winesberry on November 1, 1937, at approximately 7:30 PM at home.

Amelia was a happy child who loved to run, jump and play. She also had a serious side to her. Amelia would watch people and how they behaved. She knew if she behaved the way some people behaved or acted then that is how they would look at her behavior. It was a way of learning for her.

When Amelia turned five years old, she began public school at Dunbar Elementary for grades kindergarten through 6th grade. The year she turned ten was considered a "growing up" time. She joined St. Paul A.M.E. Church on the corner of Water Street and Elm Street. She was sprinkled with water instead of being submerged in water for baptism. Her father was fully immersed into water for his baptism when he joined St. Paul A.M.E. Church. Also, during Amelia's 10th birth year, Amelia's mother knew how to do upholstery work and when her father lost his job at the packing house due to being ill, she taught him how to do upholstery work. They opened a business called Bill and Dora's Upholstery Shop. They were asked by people and furniture stores to re-upholster their furniture and they did so.

Her father became sicker each day until he died later that year. It was a very sad time for them as a family.

At the end of her 6th grade year, she attended Central Intermediate School for grades 7 through 9. This was her first inter-racial school which she enjoyed and made many friends. She decided to play an instrument while at Central. She learned how to play the Clarinet and the String Bass. When her three years were completed at Central, she attended Wichita East high School for three years. While at East High School, Amelia auditioned for the Wichita Youth Symphony Orchestra and was selected for the String Bass section. She was really thrilled and enjoyed playing in the various concerts.

She decided to continue her education by enrolling at Wichita University, now Wichita State University. She finally graduated in the summer of 1960 with a bachelor's degree in education. She was also initiated into the sorority of Delta Sigma Theta. Later, Amelia began working on her master's degree in education. In 1971, she completed her master's degree in education. Shortly after, she began working as a school teacher for the USD 259 Wichita school district. After 34 years, she retired from the Wichita USD 259 school district.

She married Clarence E. Scott in 1966 at Greater St. Mary's Baptist church located at 17th street and Piatt Street. To this union they had two wonderful sons: Timothy C. Scott (wife Sherri) and Willam E. Scott (wife Dione) who gave them wonderful grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild.

Amelia and her sons joined Greater St. Mary's Missionary Baptist Church to be their husband/father as a family. Her husband passed away on March 11, 2025.

Amelia is preceded in death by her parents, William Winesberry and Dora Loueida Childs Winesberry, her sister and husband, Loueida Marie Winesberry Robinson and Nelson Beryl Robinson.

She leaves to cherish her memories: Her sons, Timothy C. Scott (wife Sherri) and William E. Scott (wife Dione), her grandchildren, Ryan T. Scott, Brittany Pfannenstiel Devore (husband Gerald), Sydney M. Scott, Brandon McAnelly, Bryson McAnelly, Lamya J. Scott Knowles (husband Alex), Jada N. Scott Crawford (husband Milan), and Issac W. Scott. Her great grandchildren: Kamia Santiago Crespo (husband Kimball), Kamari, Delano Jr., Layla, Zellah, Bane, Legend, Jaliyah, Atlas, Lowen and Leo. Great-great grandchild: Quintessiana Maria Crespo.
